Spring weather is here for some lucky individuals in this country and
for the rest of us it will be here really soon. Knowing that the pace of
business will be picking up, now is a great time to go over your Premier
trencher attachment to make sure that everything is in good order before you go
out and start trenching.

Here are a few of the key items for you to check out before digging:

1)   Inspect the teeth on the chain. Look for worn
out, broken, lose or even missing teeth. Having good teeth can make an enormous
difference in how productive the trencher attachment will perform.

2)   Check out the nose wheel bearing and the nylon
dust guards that surround the bearing. This bearing spends its life down in the
dirt all the time so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on it.

3)   Check for proper chain tension. Having the
chain too loose can cause it to roll off the nose while having it too tight can
put additional wear on the bearings. A good rule of thumb is to have about
1″ to 1-1/2″ of slack in the middle of the chain while holding up off
the ground and the boom horizontal.

4)   Check and inspect the gear lube in the
planetary. Top off as needed or replace if it’s been 500 hours or has a milky
look to it.

5)   Inspect your hydraulic hoses to make sure they are not damaged, always remember to NEVER
put you hand over a leak.
